Shipping of Battery Products
Taking actions to ensure the safe shipping of batteries, battery cartridges and products that contain batteries is important to ensure that arrive at their destination without damage. These guidelines ensure that batteries, battery cartridges and battery containing products are safely and securely packaged for transportation, and meet international requirements for safe handling.
All batteries are considered as Class 9 "Hazardous Materials" or "Dangerous Goods" for shipping either domestically or internationally. There are many rules and exceptions applicable to these products. Below are instructions to assist in the shipping of APC battery products. Before shipping, confirm with your carrier that all requirements have been met.
Lithium batteries are either classified as "Lithium Metal" (primary/non-rechargeable) or "Lithium Ion" (includes lithium polymer; these are secondary/rechargeable). The Lithium batteries used in APC Rechargeable and Mobile Battery Packs are Lithium Ion. The lead acid batteries used in APC Rechargeable Battery Packs are Sealed Lead Acid Batteries.
