Why did StruxureWare lose comm with my Symmetra MW after DCE was upgraded?
Issue:
StruxureWare DCE loses communications with Symmetra Mega Watt UPS after DCE upgrade.
Product Line:
StruxureWare Data Center Expert Symmetra MW
Environment:
StruxureWare DCE upgrade to 7.5 (or MW DDF upgrade past version 11)
Symmetra MW UPS and EBS
Cause:
The new Modbus DDFs for the Symmetra MW included in DCE version 7.5 poll registers that are not available in some older versions of the Symmetra MW firmware. When these registers are polled, the device reports them as unavailable. DCE sees this and sets the entire communications listing to off-line. The following is the list of firmwares that may see this issue.
Resolution:
While this will be resolved in a future version of StruxureWare DCE, it is advised not to upgrade to DCE version 7.5 unless you have the newer versions of UPS and EBS firmware as noted in the chart below. If you have already upgraded or for some other reason must upgrade, please contact your local field service person / tech support representative for StruxureWare Data Center Expert. The newer version of the DDF will need to be removed and version 11 added back in. Additionally the best alternative is to make sure that the UPS and EBS are up to date on their firmware.
