Why am I receiving alerts on my network management card about "unauthorized FTP attempts" from the IP of my PRTG network monitor tool?
Issue:
"Unauthorized FTP attempts" alerts are seen in the Network Management Card (NMC)
Product line:
Devices that utilize APC network management, including but not limited to UPS's, PDU's and ATS's
Environment:
All serial numbers
All firmware revisions
Cause:
It is possible to create an FTP sensor in the PRTG network monitoring software. Without the proper username/password configured, the monitor will attempt to login via FTP every scan, which will create frequent events on the network management card.
Resolution:
Properly configure credentials in PRTG, or remove the FTP sensor. More information can be found on the PRTG knowledge base here
