Network Management Card 2 config.ini upload for event notification settings does not enable events in v6.X.X

Article available in these languages: Russe

Issue

In v6.X.X on Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) firmware, uploading a config.ini containing event notification settings (under [EventActionConfig] section) does not properly reflect the expected changes. Events show correct delay, interval, and repeat settings, but the specific events are not enabled for any SMTP/email recipients as well as trap receivers. A subsequent re-download of the config.ini also shows email and SNMP trap events are disabled (as noted in Event ActionConfig.ini Syntax knowledge base FA156188).

As noted in knowledge base FA167693 (Things To Consider When Upgrading or Downgrading a Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) Device between v5.X.X and v6.X.X), email or trap notification settings for each email recipient will be reset to their default configuration including frequency, repeat, and interval. These are unable to be carried over during the upgrade due to differences between v5.1.X and v6.X.X. So, upon trying to adjust the notifications, the issue outlined above could be of concern.

Web UI example to verify notifications are not enabled for any E-mail recipients (Configuration->Notification->Email->By Event->Power Events):

(refer to the E-mail or Trap column and no ♦ which indicates the event is enabled for at least one recipient)

Config.ini example:
[EventActionConfig]
; UPS: Lost the local network management interface-to-UPS communication.
E0102=ES,E[+-05S+720M02:::],T[:::::],P[:::]

upload the above in your config.ini, and re-download, you'll see:

; UPS: Lost the local network management interface-to-UPS communication.
E0102=ES,E[--05S+720M02:::],T[:::::],P[:::]

(Note that the first "+" gets turned into a "-" which indicates the event is disabled as per knowledge base FA156188.)

Product Line
  • Network Management Card 2 - AP9630/30CH, AP9631/31CH, AP9635/35CH
Devices with an embedded Network Management Card 2 include (but are not limited to): 2G Metered/Switched Rack PDUs (AP86XX, AP88XX, AP89XX), Certain Audio/Video Network Management Enabled products.

Environment
  • All serial numbers
  • Users working with the config.ini and [EventActionConfig] section to configure notification settings for either email or SNMP traps
  • Users upgrading from v5.1.X to v6.0.6 firmware for sumx and sy applications only
  • v6.0.6 sumx or sy application firmware

Cause

This is due to a firmware bug.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in a future version of firmware, AOSv 6.1.1 or higher. For now, each Network Management Card, email or SNMP trap notifications may need to be configured manually.

Please note, AOS and application files are not independent. Please verify your application module (sumx, sy, sy3p, etc) and verify which AOS version is bundled with the latest application firmware release at https://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm.
